Returning applicants: SVCF’s application platform and process has changed so we highly recommend that both returning and new applicants thoroughly read the application instructions.

To apply to the Huang Leadership Development Scholarship, you will be required to complete an online application. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you start gathering your required documents and begin the application process at least three to four weeks before the application deadline.

Step 1

Thoroughly review eligibility requirements, timeline, and required materials information for the 2020 Huang Leadership Development Scholarship.

Step 2

Gather the supporting documents listed in the Required Supporting Documents section.

Step 3

Create a new SVCF account with your current email address. Please note: You will be able to save and return to your application at any time (prior to submitting your application or the deadline) by using your log-in information.

Step 4

Complete your profile in the “My Profile” section. You can find your profile in the upper right hand corner by clicking on your name. This will be used to determine your eligibility for scholarships and match you to the Huang Leadership Development Scholarship.

Step 5

Go to your homepage in the online application portal to see the scholarship application, then click on Apply and complete the online application. The online application consists of 5 primary sections. Fill out information on all fields. Do not leave any field blank, as all information is required to determine your eligibility for the scholarship for which you are applying. If the item does not apply to you, type N/A.

In addition to the Apply SVCF application form, you are required to submit the following supporting documents to be considered for the Huang Leadership Development Scholarship.

1. Personal Statement (PDF or Word Doc)

Title the statement with your first name, last name and middle initial. Your personal statement must be 500-850 words, double-spaced (approximately 2-3 pages), and must address the following prompts:

  • Describe yourself to the scholarship committee, your short and long-range goals and highlight your academic accomplishments.
  • Share with the committee the leadership qualities you feel you possess and describe events or activities in which you have demonstrated excellence in leadership.
  • Reflect on your personal journey (significant accomplishments, challenges and/or hardships) and any life lessons, discuss what you have learned from these and how you think these and how you think it will help you succeed in college and ultimately in your career.
2. Two Letters of Recommendation (PDF)

Your two letters of recommendation must be signed and dated.

  • One letter MUST be from an academic advisor who must address your academic performance
  • The second letter should be ONE of the following:
    1. A letter regarding your leadership qualities, from a teacher, academic advisor, or work or volunteer supervisor
    2. A letter regarding your academic distinction, from a teacher or academic advisor (current college students — the advisor should be from your field of study)
    3. A letter regarding your character, from a teacher, academic advisor, or work or volunteer supervisor

There are two ways to submit your letters of recommendation.

  1. Obtain two letters of recommendation from your recommenders and upload them yourself to your Apply SVCF application.
  2. Have your recommenders submit the letters themselves. First, include the name and email address of your two recommenders in your Apply SVCF application (be sure to ask recommenders before providing their information). Then, we will email your recommenders and request that they submit their letters to us directly.

Note: Regardless of your submission method, it is your responsibility to ensure letters are submitted by the deadline. Letters of recommendation which were written for other scholarship or college applications can be used, but must be for the current year

3. Official or Unofficial Transcripts of Grades (Submit both PDFs and hard copies)

Upload PDF versions of your transcripts to Apply SVCF AND mail hard copy originals (unless your school provided official electronic transcripts) to:

  • Attn: Scholarships

  • Mountain View, CA 94040

If your school provides official electronic transcripts, they can be sent to scholarships@siliconvalleycf.org.
