Opportunities with School Bus WiFi

Many students, particularly those from low-income households, lack access to high-speed Internet at home. As a result, these students have trouble completing homework assignments and may fall behind their peers. Researchers call this dilemma “the homework gap,” and some school districts are working to close it by adding WiFi to their school bus fleets.

With WiFi on the bus, students can complete their homework while commuting to and from school or while traveling for school activities. This innovative solution means students have more instruction time and more opportunities to complete assignments. Not only that, but students who are busy with schoolwork are less likely to misbehave while riding the bus.

Reseller Opportunities

For resellers in the K-12 space, WiFi on the bus offers exciting opportunities. The American School Bus Council reports some 480,000 school buses transport 26 million children each day. And as more districts work to close the homework gap and distribute devices to students, the need for WiFi-equipped school buses will only grow. EdTech reports that while only 7% of school buses currently have WiFi, 37% of school districts are considering adding it to their fleets in the next two years. Not only that, but installing WiFi on school buses opens the doors for other connectivity solutions, like video surveillance, RFID, and GPS tracking.
