The PC market is “booming” as the IT industry remakes itself to reflect a greater emphasis on services and new and emerging technologies, such as mobility, according to Tim Curran, CEO of the Global Technology Distribution Council.
“Mobility is a part” of IT’s growth, Curran told an audience of more than 600 vendor representatives, “and SYNNEX is at the heart of that movement.”
Quoting baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson, Curran likened distribution to “the straw that stirs the drink.” He talked about the value of IT distribution to OEMs, and noted several manufacturers’ commitment to the channel, including Lenovo.
Lenovo’s “organization changed its attitude and bonded with distribution,” Curran said. He added that vendors who successfully engage with channel distribution will be fully engaged and will understand how to leverage the capabilities that go beyond pick, pack, and ship.
He also said the IT industry has “completely recovered” from the Great Recession, noting that technology sales have enjoyed an 8.2% CAGR over the past four years. Curran added that SYNNEX has outperformed the market.
“SYNNEX’ numbers are phenomenal,” he said.
Curran’s comments came Tuesday morning during the Vendor Executive Summit General Session.
